The unfortunate side of soccer

Once Brazil had taken the lead two minutes into extra time, they descended to a a low level where they exhibited an extreme lack of sportsmanship and proceeded to run the clock out through cheap tricks.
Or maybe they really were hurt and Brazil has the best medical staff in the world the case can be made for after Brazilian midfielder Erika recovered remarkably quickly from the life-threatening spinal injuries that saw her carted from the field tethered to a stretcher…

It is quite clear that about 3 or 4 seconds had passed before the player realized she was suffering from excruciating pain. The medics also at one point seemed to think stretching out her legs would somehow alleviate the back pain, there must have been miscommunication as to what injury she was supposed to be feigning. Amazingly enough, as soon as she was stretchered off the field, the miracle recovery occurred and she was able to run back to the halfway line to get back into the game, a medical miracle.
We actually all ought to be thanking Erika, if not for her theatrics, they would not have added on 3 minutes of injury time to the second extra time period and the US would not have had enough time on the clock to score the late, late equalizer. Soccer enthusiasts always call on the soccer gods to even the playing field and punish wrongdoers such as Erika and they did so here through a superb cross by Megan Rapinoe, punishing Brazil for their descent to the dark side of the game.
