U.S. National Team member Oguchi Onyewu recently made his debut for Sporting CP, a Portugese club, entering the match at the same time as 21-year-old midfielder Andre Martins. At 6'-5", Onyewu is a full foot taller than Martins, which makes this look like a before and after shot of a young Bruce Banner hulking up to play.
Some people are theorizing that they were put on the field at the same time so that Martins could climb onto Onyewu's shoulder's during corner kicks to create a super human capable of heading in the ball from anywhere.
Maybe American's are just too tall for soccer. The best team in the world, Barcelona, has an average height of 5'-9" of their starting 11. It should be noted that the U.S. did have on player on it's World Cup roster at 5'-5", Jose Torres. Apparently Bob Bradley made the mistake of not playing the diminutive midfielder enough as size does not seem to matter in the sport.
