Pickup Soccer

Yesterday I finally got to play my first pickup soccer game in Houston. I have been going to George Bush Park a couple times each week to practice on my own but the past two evenings I went with a co-worker of mine. We went last night around 7 and found a group of people who apparently play pickup games there every Thursday. Fortunately Andres is Mexican as all the players, other than myself, were also Mexican so I had Andres to translate for me on the field. The quality of play wasn't great but we were able to play 6 v 6 on a small-size field and it was great to get a chance to actually play alongside teammates. We plan on joining in on this game from now on as actually playing the game is the only true way to stay in shape. They apparently usually have enough numbers to even play 11 v 11 on a full size field, which would be perfect. The play is competitive, but not enough so that I really need to worry about getting hurt before my season in the fall.
