Only worth braving the 95 degree heat when it is free
When Laurel came to visit, we discovered that the Houston Zoo has free entrance on the first Tuesday of every month. So on the first Tuesday of June, Laurel picked me up from work and we went straight to the zoo to visit for a couple of hours.

I look pretty good having just gotten into a plane crash
The zoo has a new African Forest exhibit that resembles rides that Disney creates in that it tells a story as you walk along between the different animal exhibits. The exhibit revolves around a pilot named Tommy who crashes his plane in the wild while looking for a legendary animal, the koolookamba. You get to see a couple rhinos, some giraffes, and chimpanzees as you search for signs of the gorilla-esque myth.

My favorite exhibit was the elephants as they have recently had two baby elephants born and those two are entertaining to watch play with each other.

After getting fed, the baby decided that it's brother would serve as a nice chair.
The zoo is fun, especially when it is free so I am glad Laurel discovered the new promotion the zoo is trying. I could go again next week but that probably won't happen by myself.
